Probate delays continue!

It is currently taking approximately 13 weeks for Probate Registries to provide Grants of Probate to solicitors.

We have discovered that one of the reasons for the delays is due to a hologram that now appears on grants, and documents often have to be sent to different registries to be printed, increasing solicitors’ wait time.

What’s more is that the Ministry of Justice appears to be under-reporting probate delays

Ian Bond, chair of the Law Society’s wills and equity committee, said figures posted on Parliament’s website about the average wait for grants of probate were ‘disingenuous to say the least’.

Edward Argar, the parliamentary under secretary of state at the Ministry of Justice, said ‘With a backlog of an estimated 40,000 it is going to take a long time to get back to normal.’
